Plans and directs funeral services, memorial services, wakes, and burials. Assists families throughout the grieving processes by offering emotional support, professional care to the deceased, arranging services, and transportation of client families. Assists in the Care Center with embalming and prep work as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Coordinate removal of the body to the mortuary for preparation including refrigeration, embalming, dressing, casketing, cosmetics, and any other related technical duties.
Interviews family or another authorized person to arrange details such as preparation of obituary notice, selection of urn or casket, determination of location and time of cremation or burial, selection of pallbearers, procurement of official for religious rites, and transportation of client families. Plans placement of the casket in the visitation room and/or chapel and adjusts lights, fixtures, and floral displays.
Directs the Funeral Support Team assigned to services in the performance of their duties prior to, during, and after the service.
Directs pallbearers in placement and removal of the casket from hearse. Closes casket and leads the funeral procession to church or burial site. Prepares the body for internment or directs preparations and shipment of the body for out of state burial.
Informs Manager of any non-routine situations or complaints on an on-going basis.
Completes all mortuary related forms and paperwork.
Assists in the care center with embalming and prep work as needed.
Preferred Valid FD and embalmer license in the State of Washington or reciprocal.
Qualified applicants will be considered with the condition of being able to secure their WA state license within the legal timeframes.
Valid driver's license/clean driving record.

Kosec Funeral Home & Crematory is a small, fast paced, full service funeral home and crematory serving Jefferson County, Washington’s Olympic Peninsula. We provide services to approximately 220 families a year. Approximately 90% of our cases are cremation.
Applicants should be motivated, self-starters who are in funeral service to provide excellent customer service to grieving families. Attention to detail is crucial. We are a family owned and operated firm. Responsibilities will include: Home, hospital, institutional and coroner first calls, meeting with families to coordinate and direct all selected burial or cremation arrangements, embalming, assisting/closing/cleaning up after autopsies, coroner work, direct operation of the crematory and processing of cremated remains, and opening/closing for inurnments at our local cemetery.
Port Townsend is located on the water of Puget Sound, just a ferry ride away from Whidbey Island and Seattle. Not far away are the Olympic Mountains, Hurricane Ridge and the Hoe Rain forest. Lots of sea kayaking, fishing, hiking and other outdoor activities are close by.
