Terry Kenneth Yahn

Terry Kenneth Yahn, born February 24, 1941, in Toppenish, Washington, passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2026, in Lacey, Washington, at the age of 85. His passing brings sorrow to all who knew and loved him, and his memory will remain deeply held by his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched through his work and service.

 

Terry’s life was marked by dedication, responsibility, and care for others. He was the owner of Yahn and Son Funeral Home and Crematory, a role that reflected not only his profession but also the steady compassion with which he approached people during some of life’s most difficult moments. Through his work, Terry offered comfort and guidance, and he became a trusted presence to many in his community. His commitment to service extended well beyond his business, and he gave his time and leadership to a number of organizations and causes over the years.

 

He served in Vietnam with the United States Air Force, as past president of the Kent Kiwanis Club and the King County Funeral Directors Association. He also served as chairman of the Kent Chamber Welcome Teacher Breakfast, was a Mason, a member of the Washington State Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association and a member of the North American Cremation Association. These roles speak to a life lived with purpose and involvement, and to a man who understood the value of showing up for his community in meaningful ways.

 

Those who knew Terry will remember him for the quiet strength and kindness he brought to his relationships. He was a devoted husband to Marlene Yahn, and a loving father to Brian Herridge, Shelly Hall, and Ann Mathiesen. His family was a central part of his life, and he was proud of the people they became. He was a wonderful caring brother to his sister Sandy. He also cherished his five grandchildren, Sydney, Erika, Shannon, Sammantha, and Hayden, 2 Great grandchildren, Cash and Caia, each of whom brought joy and richness to his life. The bonds he built with his family were a lasting part of who he was, and they will continue to be felt in the stories, lessons, and love he leaves behind.

 

Terry lived a life of steady purpose and genuine connection. Whether through his work, his community involvement, or his family, he carried himself with a sense of responsibility and heart that left an impression on those around him. He was the kind of man people could depend on, and that dependability became one of the many gifts of his life.

 

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Yahn and Son Funeral Home and Crematory. 

 

His family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well lived and dearly loved.
